Impressive Derry rally past Cavan to seal semi-final spot

Derry have sealed a place in the last four of the Ulster Minor Football Championship with an impressive win over Cavan.

The sides went in level at the break (1-7 to 0-10) as Callum Downey knocked over four first half points while the combination of Caomhin McGovern and Darryl McGurren causing problems.

Jack Tully’s 21st minute goal gave the Breffni men a massive boost, playing against the wind in the first stanza.

Cavan took a three point lead early in the second with full-back, Peter Smith landed a hugely inspirational score.

The strength of the Derry bench told in the final quarter as Marc Dixon levelled proceedings before, putting his team into a lead they would never lose three minutes later.

Further points from Jamie Dougan, Callum and Enda Downey sealed victory for an impressive side led by Paddy Campbell.

Derry will now advance to the last four where they will meet one of; Donegal, Tyrone, Down, Cavan with Monaghan being the other side automatically qualifying for the semi-final already.
