DERRY camogs have done well to bounce back from their opening day defeat to Down, but they face a big test of their ambitions in this weekend’s Intermediate Championship quarter-final against Meath (Templeport, Sunday, 4pm).
The Oak Leafers got an all-important play-off victory over Kildare on Saturday as they earned a 1-15 to 0-5 win. It was a great all-round team performance with Aine McAllister and Karen Kielt finishing off their attacking moves.
Kildare are one of the weaker teams in the competition, and although Meath are undoubtedly better, they squandered a chance of progressing automatically to the last four when they lost out to Antrim.
Tyrone and Cavan, meanwhile, will vie for some precious silverware when they take on Cavan on Saturday (Inniskeen, 6pm).
The Breffni girls have been in
free-scoring form in the
competition, having racked up 3-11 in an earlier win over Tyrone and 5-16 against Louth, with Sinead McKenna, Orla Smith and Aideen Coyle among the scorers.
The Red Hands are looking for a filip ahead of their All-Ireland Junior Championship semi-final, and the likes of Roisin McErlean, Sarah McCann and Rebecca Barker have had a couple of big outings for them, while Nicola McKiver and Aishling Jordan have stood out in defence.
Tyrone have been going well at
underage level, winning last year’s All-Ireland Minor C Championship, and it was a considerable disappointment when the camogie authorities decided to call a halt to all underage matches.
