Cavan’s Brady is set to miss Cork game through injury

By Niall Gartland

CAVAN have a worrying spread of injuries heading into their final round Division Two clash at home to Cork this Sunday.

A number of mainstays of their team – Oisin Kiernan, Jason McLoughlin, Darragh Lovett, Conor Madden and Killian Clarke – sat out their highly impressive win over Roscommon last weekend because of injury, while two more players – Oisin Brady and James Smith – hobbled off during their win at Dr Hyde Park.

It’s understood that Oisin Brady has picked up a hamstring injury which has ruled him out of contention for Sunday’s game, while Smith is understood to be touch and go for their important match against Cork, where a win could possibly see the Breffni County promoted if other results go their way.

It’s also understood that Evan Crowe, who came on in the final 20 minutes against Roscommon, is unlikely to see action this weekend as he’s throwing in his lot with the U-20 team, which got their campaign underway next Wednesday evening against old rivals Monaghan.

The Cavan seniors have picked up a head of steam in the National League, winning their last four matches, which should set them in good stead for their Ulster Championship quarter-final clash against Tyrone in Omagh on Sunday, April 13.

The teams met at the same juncture last year after Cavan overcame Monaghan in the preliminary round, and on that occasion Tyrone edged an entertaining contest in Kingspan Breffni, but only after extra-time.
