Four will become two as Cavan championship nears its conclusion

CAVAN SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL

GOWNA V CROSSERLOUGH

Saturday, Kingspan Breffni, 7.30pm

THIS could be a cracking encounter between two of the elite teams in Cavan. Gowna produced arguably their best display of the year with victory over Cavan Gaels, while Crosserlough are back in business after a disappointing 2021. Crosserlough have been racking up big scores and trounced Lacken in the quarters. We’ll give them a hesitant nod.

Verdict: Crosserlough

RAMOR V KILLGARRY

Sunday, Kingspan Breffni, 4pm

REIGNING champions Ramor have had to toil their way to the semi-finals, overcoming Mullahoran after a replay, but they’re one step away from making it back to the final. They’re particularly strong defensively and it’ll be fascinating to see if an in-form Killygarry can get the better of them.

Verdict: Ramor

CAVAN INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER-FINAL REPLAY

CASTLERAHAN V CUCHULAINN’S

Friday, Kingspan Breffni, 8pm

THIS was always going to be one of the ties of the round and so it proved as they played out a draw for the second time this year. Both their league encounter and championship match were low-scoring affairs, and it’ll be the team that learns the most that will advance to the semis. Cian Doughty was sent off for a straight red for Cuchualainn’s, so he’ll likely miss this weekend’s replay.

Verdict: Castlerahan
