AIDAN Forker relishes the thinking side of football.

He said he is looking forward to this Saturday’s Division Three final meeting with Fermanagh because of the opportunity to unlock a defence.

The centre half forward’s role this year has been to try to break down defences and the Orchard county have been successful doing so, though the Fermanagh rearguard was trickier than most as Armagh only managed to score 0-7 against them earlier this year.

“We played them in the group stages and it was a tough game then. It was very much a tactical encounter. To be honest I enjoy playing in those games.

“It’s more like a chess match than a football match. It is a thinking man’s game. I am looking forward to looking for gaps in a really good defence. Going up against players that you would consider top of their game in that division. That’s where we wanted to be at the start of the year.”

This weekend’s final might be a good chance to prepare themselves for the championship because Armagh are playing Fermangh in the first round. But Forker didn’t agree.

“It is a long time to championship. The group game is the game that we learned more from in terms of learning for the championship against Fermanagh.

“We are playing them in Croke Park. It will be nothing like the championship atmosphere in Brewster Park. So, the group game is what we can reflect upon more.”
