Armagh goalkeeper nominated for award

ARMAGH goalkeeper Anna Carr has been nominated for the 2022 ZuCar Golden Glove award.

Carr, Carlow goalkeeper Nicole Hanley, TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate winner Eimear Barry from Laois, Mayo’s Aisling Tarpey and Meath’s TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship winner and current All Star, Monica McGuirk, are the five goalkeepers in with a chance of claiming the award.

The ZuCar Golden Glove award was introduced in 2021 to acknowledge goalkeeping excellence during the TG4 All-Ireland Championships, with Longford’s Riane McGrath was the inaugural recipient.

Voting is now open to crown the 2022 winner and option A is an outstanding save by Armagh goalkeeper Anna Carr against Monaghan, to deny Rosemary Courtney from close range.

Option B is another excellent save, this time from Carlow goalkeeper Nicole Hanley to repel an Antrim attack in the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship semi-final. Antrim would prevail but Hanley was excellent on the day for Carlow.

Option C is a wonderful save from Laois goalkeeper Eimear Barry at a crucial stage in the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Final, as Wexford forward Aisling Murphy threatened to find the back of the net at the Canal End of Croke Park.

Option D is another superb point blank save, this time from Mayo goalkeeper Aisling Tarpey to deny Melissa Duggan as the Westerners overcame Cork in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship quarter-final.

And option E is Meath’s TG4 All Star goalkeeper Monica McGuirk, who performed vital heroics to keep out a close-range effort from Galway’s Charlotte Cooney, as the Royals prevailed by just a single point in a gripping TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship quarter-final.

The winner of the 2022 ZuCar Golden Boot is Laois star Mo Nerney, who finished as leading scorer in the 2022 TG4 All-Ireland Championships, with a haul of 5-31 for the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate champions.

Mo will be presented with her award, along with the Golden Glove winner, in September.

Voting will close at 5pm on Wednesday, August 31 and fans voting for their preferred choice will be in with a chance to win a ZuCar goody pack.
