Ulster dominate All-Star selection

By Shaun Casey

Nine All-Star awards will be making their way north at tomorrow night’s ceremony. Of the 15 players honoured on the PwC GAA/GPA Football All-Star team, three Ulster teams are represented.

All-Ireland champions Armagh have the most with six awards while Ulster champs Donegal have two. Tyrone are also represented on the team with one winner while Galway (5) and Louth (1) make up the rest.

Every player is selected on the All-Star team outside of Niall Morgan, who claims the number one spot to add to his 2021 gong. He fought off opposition from Armagh’s Blaine Hughes and Shaun Patton of Donegal for the goalkeeper position.

Armagh’s All-Ireland winning captain Aidan Forker, along with Barry McCambridge, are in defence while Ben Crealey, Rian O’Neill, Oisin Conaty and Conor Turbitt also represent the Orchard County.

Peadar Mogan and Oisin Gallen pick up awards after a fantastic year for Donegal following the return of Jim McGuinness. Craig Lennon is Louth’s second ever winner while Johnny McGrath, Dylan McHugh, Paul Conroy, John Maher and Rob Finnerty represented Galway.

Both McCambridge and Oisin Conaty (Armagh) are up for individual awards tomorrow night, as is Ciaran Moore (Donegal). McCambridge is nominated for Player of the Year while the other two are in line for Young Player of the Year.
