Armagh minor boss Brendan Hughes takes on new club role

By Shaun Casey

ARMAGH minor boss Brendan Hughes has been named as the new manager of Sarsfields for the upcoming season.

Hughes will combine his county commitments with his new club job as the High Moss men look to retain their place in the senior league.

The former Pearse Og and Madden manager is enjoying his second year in charge of the Orchard minors and guided them to their first opening round win in the Ulster championship since 2016 last season.

Sarsfields were promoted to Division 1B last year when they topped the league, winning Division 2A.

They endured quite a disappointing championship however, losing out to Culloville in the semi-final of the Intermediate championship.
The Derrymacash men are back competing in the senior championship this year after a two-year absence.

Hughes, who broke the Crossmaglen stranglehold on the Armagh championship with Pearse Og in 2009, has plenty of experience to bring to his new job.

Sarsfields begin their campaign on April 3 with a home tie against Silverbridge.
