Opinion: Ulster needs a resurgent Antrim

By Michael McMullan

DIVISION Three is turning out to be a real scrap and Antrim are right bang in the middle of the promotion race.

From table toppers Limerick, right down to fifth-placed Westmeath, just two points separate the teams.

Enda McGinley’s side have been one of the Ulster success stories of the season, but in the long-term, they need to be knocking on the door of Division Two every year until it opens and get away from being a yo-yo team battling to stay away from the basement.

In recent years they’ve had players picking up MacRory Cup medals for both St Mary’s Magherafelt and St Ronan’s Lurgan, so the raw materials do exist.

They have a settled spine to their team and if they can add another couple of talented underage players next season, it’ll keep things fresh.
