Tyrone have beaten Dublin for the first time since 2013 with a sensational performance in Croke Park.

Mickey Harte picked up only his second ever win over counterpart Jim Gavin despite playing the final twenty minutes with fourteen men after Niall Sludden’s dismissal.

The Red Hands recovered from an early hammer blow with Cormac Costello rattling the net after just three minutes.

However, 1-4 from man of the match, Cathal McShane sent his team towards a huge psychological victory while knocking Dublin out of contention for the league title.

Mattie Donnelly opened the scoring from the first attack playing on the inside line, alongside McShane.

Costello would unravel that positive start by rattling the net, terrorising the Tyrone defence with electric pace before hammering home.

The Ulster side did not panic as Donnelly and Harte added scores to settle the nerves.

Con O’Callaghan replied for the All-Ireland Champions before an over the top ball found the hands of McShane who calmly rolled the ball under Stephen Cluxton to give his side a major boost.

Harte and Mannion traded scores as the half ebbed and flowed before Niall Morgan dived low to his left to deny Costello a second goal.

The Edendork man would then rise to the occasion once more to hit the last score of the half with a long range free, as his team led by two at the break.

McShane picked up where he left off in the first half and fired over the first point of the half.

Brian Fenton and Mannion reduced the arrears to one before Richie Donnelly and Morgan brought the gap to two.

Mannion fired over and the reigning league champions would come no closer than two points to their opponents in the remaining twenty minutes despite Niall Sludden being dismissed on the combination of yellow and black cards.

With the odds stacked firmly against them McShane and Harte pointed via the new mark rule as the direct kick-passing of Harte’s men continued to prove diligence.

Colm Cavanagh returned to action for the first time in 2019 as Tyrone held their resolve in four minutes of injury time to claim a famous victory and remain in the hunt for a league final spot.

Dublin will travel to Cavan in next weekend’s final round of games while Tyrone host Galway in a clash that will have a huge bearing on the pairing for the league final on Sunday March 31^st.
