Players must learn to be able to shoot under pressure
In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, Steven Poacher highlights the importance of shooting drills to a training session.
But he says that simply throwing a load of balls out and letting players take pot shots at the posts is not good enough.
“It is critical that any shooting game or drill performed in training is performed at a game-related speed.
“Players won’t get a leisurely four or five seconds without pressure to steady themselves during competitive action.
“Introduce pressure and allow players the opportunity to shoot under pressure from a direct opponent.”
Poacher goes on to explain he uses shooting drills in pre-games, and he also illustrates a drill that you could use in your session.
