In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, Steven Poacher encourages coaches to get their players to try other sports in the off season.
He said that learning other sports can help identify transferable skills and tactics.
In particular, he believes Basketball is a good example.
“Basketball has so many skills that can be transferred to the Gaelic Field.
“In fact, it recently emerged in a National newspaper that Dublin are employing basketball coachs. Anyone who has been watching them closely would say that that has been the case for a while.
“It’s obvious when you see the way their forwards use screening to gain that half a yard for a score, or important play.
“But Basketball isn’t the only invasion game you can use, there are plenty of others.”
He goes on to explain the other games to play, and what their advantage are to Gaelic Games.
