In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, Steven Poacher addresses five traits that make good coaches great.
One of them is enthusiasm, and the ability not to criticise players.
“Enthusiasm is the coach’s best friend. Be enthusiastic at every session and your enthusiasm will rubb off on the players in the session, particularly with underage plaeyrs who need it.
“If you lack enthusiasm so will your players.
“If someone does something well, tell them how great they were. Remember young people won’t always remember what you told them but they will remember how your words made them feel.
“If the coach makes a mistake no one will shout at him/her, all players will make mistakes at training and in games. Let players regard making mistakes as part and parcel of learning.”
