Connor McAlliskey’s terrible cruciate injury in the first game of the season means that the Tyrone man is now on the long journey back to full fitness.
With that in mind, Pauric Grimes sought to highlight best practice for those players who are nursing themselves back to good health.
He first addresses the importance of adopting the right attitude.
“A simple reality I learned from recovering from my own ankle injury was that if you follow your own rehab programme you will get better, and if you don’t, you won’t.
“The problem is that rehab hurts, and it is boring, really boring. That’s why so many athletes end up shortening rehab, or skipping rehab sessions.
“The result: slowed or incomplete recovery.
“There is also the subset of athletes who believe that more is better. So they do more sets and reps on more days than is recommended by their rehab team.
“Unfortunately this ‘more is better’ mentality often results in overuse injuries and complications, and slowed rather than accelerated recovery.”
