Pauric Grimes points out that more than ever, players are not making the transition to senior because they are not working hard enough.
“Ever hear the quote: ‘hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard?’ I see that more than ever in GAA circles nowadays.
“Players who had a physical advantage at underage levels failing to transition to senior football.
“Players who were technically a step ahead of the rest not adapting to the increased training loads and expecatations of senior football as it all came so easy to them when they were younger.
“A lot of men slip through the cracks for these very two reasons.
“The hard worker doesn’t though, he keeps the head down, continues to improve and makes his mark on the game.”
He goes on to give the comparison of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, two soccer players whose careers took different trajectories.
