Pauric Grimes addresses the issue of diet during the winter months in his column in this week’s issue of Gaelic Life.
He warns against getting into bad habits, and reminds atheletes not to let their good work slip during the off season.
He talks about understanding calories, and also working out what your body needs.
“The volume of calories needed will vary depending on an individual’s activity levels, weight, age, gender and a few other factors. So your best bet is to punch all those details into a calorie counter and use that number as a starting point to work from.
“Once you have established how many calories your nbody needs to achieve whatever specific goal you have, there’s a few things you need to avoid adiding insulation for the winter. Keep protein constant. Whatever changes you make to your diet, one thing must stay the same, your protein intake, roughly two grams per kilo of bodyweight.”
PG goes on to explain another way to plan your diet and some of the dangers that are ahead of you over the next few months.
