KEVIN Cassidy has went into detail about the time the Gaoth Dobhair club went into meltdown after the senior team had suggested appointing an outside manager.
The Gaelic Life columnist was reflecting on the story ahead of this weekend’s Ulster Senior Club semi-finals, which sees Killyclogher, Sluahgtneil, Maghery and Kilcoo all managed by outside men.
“At the AGM one member who I have great time for asked the million-dollar question which I am sure was on everyone’s lips. “How much are we going to pay this man and if we do does that mean that the local man who takes the job next year will have to be paid?,” said Cassidy.
“Fair question so before things escalated I stood up and said “of course this will cost money but I give you my word that we will deliver a championship and I will also manage this club one day and it wouldn’t enter my mind to look for payment and I hope everyone in this room feels the same.”
“I kept both of those promises as later that year with our outside manager in place we lifted the Donegal Senior Championship and a few years ago I managed my club and don’t worry, I didn’t bill them for my time.”
