Kevin Cassidy has said in his current column in Gaelic Life that the Donegal team are in a critical stage of their progress.
“They may not know it but this set back is crucial as to how they expect to develop as a group.
“Speaking from experience, once a team goes down the wheels can quickly come off the wagon.
“Players want to play at the top and once they are operating there then the commitment required to play at the top is a given.
“However, once you drop a division and all of a sudden you are not getting the same attention and exposure as you once did players can sometimes take the eye off the ball.”
Cassidy does argue that the team still have great potential and there is no reason to be unduly worried about the future of Donegal football, but he does say that the pressure is on manager Declan Bonner to galvanise his team.
