GAELIC Life columnist Kevin Cassidy has said that Dublin’s destruction of Tyrone at the weekend was the death knell for overly defensive tactics at inter-county level.
Jim Gavin’s side were 2-17 to 0-11 victors in the All-Ireland semi-final as Tyrone’s defensive structured failed to contain them, and Cassidy feels it was a seismic moment in the modern game.
“Tyrone caused so many teams so many problems this year with their defensive structure, suffocating the life out of most of them along the way but eventually that was going be beaten by more technically gifted players. Playing defensively will only get you so far before your limitations are exposed – and exposed badly at that.”
