John Morrison – no more ‘win at all costs’

Children must have fun when they are playing

John Morrison addresses the fever pitch that has gripped GAA of late, in his current column in Gaelic Life.

He says teams are taking the game too seriously and they need to start enjoying themselves.

“As a coach, don’t take things too seriously. Remember, sports are supposed to be fun, so change the narrative from ‘win at all costs’, to have fun at all costs.

“Know each child and guide them to ‘feel’ and achieve their personal best.

“Strengthen their best skills so they can become independent of you when using them. Guide them to make their weaker skills better, until they become independent of you.

“It’s a long process so there are no quick fixes.”

He goes on to reveal the best way to prove to your players that you are not only about winning.
