John Morrison believes that a truly great manager cuts his own path.
In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, Morrison explains that great managers ‘chase perfection, but catch excellence’.
He highlights ten approaches involved in chasing perfection. One of those is building a team culture.
“They build the perfect team culture and coaching environment, they don’t go looking for that culture and environment as they know it doesn’t exist.
“They face the same difficulties and problems with selection, injury worries, dealing with county boards, with media, with recalcitrant players, back room staff, disciplinary issues as every other manager.
“But they strive to constantly make their culture and environment great for their players and staff. To paraphrase Frank Sinatra, ‘they do it their way’. But the great manager will change the phrasing to ‘our way’.”
