GAELIC Life hurling columnist John Martin has applauded the comments made this week by Clare hurler Tony Kelly.
In an interview, Kelly said that he would favour the abolition of the Munster Senior Championship in favour of the ‘Super 8’ format, like the one that is due to be brought into inter-county football from next season.
“At last, there’s a voice from Munster that actually questions whether a system formulated 130-odd years ago, based on boundaries enforced by Norman invaders, loosely congregated into notional 11th century kingdoms, is really fit for purpose for a 21st century sporting competition.”
