UNFAIR ADVNATAGE…John Marin feels that Ulster sides are losing out

GAELIC Life hurling columnist John Martin has hit out at the GAA residency rule as he believes it is weighted against Ulster sides.

The rule allows lower graded teams to bring in players from MacCarthy Cup counties if they meet certain criteria.

Sides like Kildare have taken full advantage, but Martin has argued against it ahead of the new National Hurling League season.

“It discriminates against the teams in the six counties, not just because of the geographical distance from the majority of top tier counties but also the lack of any opportunity that may arise from workplace transfers, for example in the likes of the Gardai, health, education or civil service.”
