GAELIC Life hurling columnist John Martin has argued against Stephen Reilly’s assertion that people who haven’t played hurling shouldn’t be coaching.

Pointing to a number of examples, Martin plots out why he disagrees with that viewpoint.

“If what Reilly opines is correct surely the converse must also be true?” he said. “That the best and most technically gifted players will automatically make the best coaches.

“I’d rate the two best players I’ve played alongside at my own club as the two worst coaches I’ve had the misfortune to play under when they hung up their hurls.”
