Portaferry and Ballycran players in Gaelic Life All-Star contention

PORTAFERRY won their first Down hurling title since 2014 and two of their players have made the Gaelic Life All-Star shortlist while Ballycran have also one representative.

EOGHAN SANDS (PORTAFERRY)
Provided perhaps the biggest moment in this year’s Down Championship as his late score quelled any hope of another Ballycran escape act in the final replay – and it was a super effort from the wing. Sands was superb in the final, hitting three scores and winning a huge amount of dirty ball, and that marked a brilliant 2020 for the player.

LIAM SAVAGE (Ballycran)
It’s fair to say that Ballycran had a number of different players stand up to the plate at different times, but Liam Savage was consistently good throughout the campaign and gets the nod. Landed the levelling point, 0-13 to 0-13, in the replay to open the door to another county title, but it was Portaferry who finished with two points.

CAOLAN TAGGART (PORTAFERRY)
The team captain felt that Portaferry could have given Ulster a real rattle and with Taggart minding the house, who would argue? Would have been disappointed with the goal they conceded in the drawn encounter, but responded like the best players too with an excellent showing in the replay. A top season from Taggart.
