Diarmaid McNulty: My concussion hell

DANGER…Diarmaid McNulty suffered eight concussions

A FORMER Tyrone U-21 player has opened up on his concussion hell that led to his retirement from football at just 25 years of age.

In an extensive interview that will appear in Thursday’s Gaelic Life, Gortin man Diarmaid McNulty talks about the impact eight concussions had not only on his sporting career, but also on his life.

He also explains what he feels the GAA needs to do to help players in a similar situation.

“The third one happened during training but I never lost consciousness right then,” he said of one concussion. “Later, my mum found me on the sofa unconscious and the scary thing is that I drove home from training.”

The full interview will be available in Thursday’s Gaelic Life newspaper, which can also be read online here.
