Poacher – New changes will make game more defensive

THE five dramatic changes which were proposed by the GAA earlier in the week would be a God-send for defensively orientated coaches if implemented on a permanent basis, according Steven Poacher.

Chairman of the Standing Committee For Playing Rules David Hasson told Cahair O’Kane of the Irish News that the raison d’etre of the proposed rule changes is to “promote attacking principles”, and they are set to be trialled in the new season’s Allianz Football Leagues.

However, Carlow coach Steven Poacher believes that the radical new suggestions would only serve to make the game even more defensive, and says that the game should be allowed to evolve organically.

Poacher says the proposed introduction of three consecutive hand-passes for the team in possession is entirely unfit for purpose, while the GAA are also considering giving the ‘sin bin’ yet another whirl.
