RTÉ chief: We’re not responsible for geo-blocking

BAD RECEPTION….Some fans in the north feel short-changed

RTÉ’s new Group Head of Sport Declan McBennett has said that the broadcaster is not responsible for the geo-blocking that can lead to some GAA action being blocked out in the north.

In a wide-ranging interview in this week’s Gaelic Life, which is in shops now, the Monaghan native explains that they are not at fault.

“I want as many people as possible in the 32 counties to see as much Gaelic games as possible. I understand their frustration. I would share their frustration. The issue, however, is not RTE geo-blocking, the issue is your internet service provider recognising you as being from a particular jurisdiction.”
