Pauric Grimes says that when you are training, you have to expect the best but be prepared for the worst.
It is a fine balane of being positive, but not getting fazed when things go your way.
He said in his column in the current issue of Gaelic Life: “Expect the best but be prepared for the worst.
“Expect good things to happen, you’ve put the work in so the performances will come but it is important that you are not fazed by the worst case scenario.
“Be ready to roll with the punches when there are disruptions to your routine, illnesses, poor refereeing decisions, opponents performing, above themselves etc. Don’t use these as convenient excuses for why you can’t succeed.”
He has three more pieces of advice for those who want to compete at the highest level.
