In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, Pauric Grimes reveals how players can deal with being over-worked at this time of the year.
“He said that managers can get too excited about the new season and ‘run their legs off players from November to March, then realise when they get to this time of year their players are wrecked’.
“So with a combination of over-excited managers and fixture congestions commonplace across the province what chance does the club player have to stay fit and avoid injury?
“For me a big part of handling the intensity of a mad pre season or heavy training schedule combined with multiple games in a short space of time ultimately falls at the feet of the players themselves.
“That’s maybe not the answer you’d have liked to hear, but it’s the one you are getting.”
PG goes on to explain how to handle those pressures, and gives some great advice for players for those who want to feel less tired, and more fresh.
