ARMAGH Harps ace Joe McElroy believes that Sunday’s Armagh final win over Maghery was the perfect answer to claims that they didn’t have the courage to lift the Gerry Fagan Cup.
It was the side’s third final in four years, but hammerings at the hands of Crossmaglen in 2014 and ’15 led to some questioning their mental fortitude.
However, they produced the perfect response with Ryan McShane and Ultan Lennon grabbing two goals in a minute in the 2-9 to 0-11 win over the holders at the Athletic Grounds.
“It’s been said for the last couple of years because obviously we got destroyed the last few times against Crossmaglen,” said McElroy.
“Cross completely played us off the park and you could see that we weren’t used to it.
“A bit of belief was the difference on Sunday and once those goals went in, it changed the game completely.
“It’s just overwhelming to get the win and we’re all over the moon. It’s good to finally get it done after our last couple of finals.”
