GAELIC Life hurling columnist John Martin has praised Saturday’s Special Congress for getting most of the big issues right.
Writing in today’s edition, Martin said that the adoption of a motion relating to ‘Tier 2’ teams will have a significant impact on the future of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.
“That the Laois, Offaly Meath motion was adopted to allow the finalists of the ‘Tier 2’ competition to play the third-placed teams in the preliminary round was the most gratifying ‘win’ of the day.
“It begs the question as to why Central Council removed that route to the MacCarthy Cup from their original proposals in the first place.”
