Steven Poacher – Short-notice fixtures are unacceptable

Club football doesn’t get enough respect according to Steven Poacher

In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, Steven Poacher demands that more thought is given to club championship fixtures.

He says that administrators are too interested in inter county football and are overlooking the importance of the club.

“For a club to face the prospect of a four-day turnaround coupled with two or three days notice of a championship game is just unacceptable.

“I would love some administrators to take a trip beyond the current obsession of senior inter-county football and have a look around the lifeblood do the association and get into the clubs and see the work, commitment, time and effort from committees, coaches, managers and most importantly our players that give them the chance to actually dare to dream of the big day out.”
