And the voting begins!
Over the coming weeks, Gaelic Life will be publishing the shortlist for the Camogie, Ladies Football, Hurling and Football teams along with all the remaining category nominees. It’s over to you to get voting for your favourite nominees and then the judges will make their final decisions on the All Star teams and category winners. The All Star teams will be announced in advance of the Gala Awards Night with further details to follow.
IN the space of six years, the Gaelic Life Ulster Club All-stars have grown at an astonishing rate – but the 2016 version is set to be the biggest of them all.
Last year nearly 500 people attended a black-tie gala event at the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan, and it’s back to the Oriel county to celebrate all that is good about clubs in Ulster on January 13.
There is one very significant change this year though. As per usual, the Football and Hurling Teams of the Year will be honoured on the night, but now Ladies’ Football and Camogie will also have their moment in the sun as there will be Team of the Years for both for the first time ever.
The category awards from previous years will also remain whilst we will also find out the latest inductee into the Gaelic Life Hall of Fame. RTE’s Darragh Maloney will also be back to MC on the night.
As the awards have grown in stature, so has the operation – and Gaelic Life are extremely grateful to all the sponsors who are supporting this year.
Those sponsors congregated at the beautiful surroundings of the Moody Boar Restaurant last Friday morning for the official launch of the 2016 awards and North-West News Group marketing manager Darren Farnan thanked all who had supported the events since its inception.
“Gaelic Life and the North-West News Group are delighted to launch the sixth annual Ulster Club All Stars in association with theGAAstore.com,” he said.
“The initiative has become firmly established as part of the Ulster Club season with players of all codes rewarded for their hard work and success.
“We are once again delighted that theGAAstore.com have committed to principal sponsorship of the awards and also with the wide spread of category sponsors. “This year will be the biggest yet with the introduction of the Ladies Football and Camogie All-star teams along with the usual Football and Hurling teams and remaining category recipients.
“Full ticket details will be announced in the coming weeks for what’s expected to be a sell-out event. On behalf of all at Gaelic Life and the North-West News Group we wish all club representatives the best of luck in their pursuit of Ulster glory and ultimate All Star recognition.”
Ciaran Woods, marketing manager with theGAAstore.com, said that it was a privilege to once again be involved with the event in such a big way.
“We are delighted to once again take on the role of primary sponsors for the 2016 Ulster Club All-stars,” he said.
“We have been involved in this event for a number of years now, and the growth it has enjoyed is nothing short of phenomenal.
“Clubs, across all GAA codes, are the bread and butter of our business. They support us, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to support them and to help acknowledge their achievements.
“We are looking forward to another wonderful night, and given the excitement, the twists and turns, which the club championships of Ulster have already thrown up, we are surely set for another great event.”
Voting will open in the coming weeks, with the first shortlist – for hurling – to be revealed in the November 3 edition of Gaelic Life.
