Cahal Carvill – Violence will lead to court cases

In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, Cahal Carvill has warned the GAA about dealing with violence in matches.

Carvill says that fighting is never acceptable within the GAA, and anyone who attempts to defend it is ‘part of the problem’.

In an at time emotional account, Carvill goes on to warn the GAA that they must start taking severe action against clubs who allow fighting at their matches to proceed.

“It cannot be overlooked that island of Ireland is an increasingly litigious place and that is manifested in the increase in insurance premiums for sports clubs acorss the GAA.

“And when someone is hurt as a reuslt of these unsavoury melees i tis the perpetrator and then the club that will be liable for what could not only be substantial damages and costs but also a jail term.

“If you ant to fight, head to the local boxing club. I have been an advocatae of the sweet science for years. It teaches discipline and repset, virtues notable absent in many GAA Games today.”
