In his column in the current issue of Gaelic Life, Pauric Grimes explains how players can prepare themselves for two games in quick succession.

“When my own athletes are preparing for a game I use a visualisation method to help them understand where they should be at on the morning of the game.

“Before they step on the field, their bodies are a full glass of water.

“After they put every ounce of effort into that game then some of the water will be removed from the glass. Depending on how tough the game was, it may be half empty or maybe two thirds empty. Rest and recovery on the following day will help to refill the glass.

“Gym sessions will drain the glass. Eating will fill it. Pitch sessions will drain it. Not as much as matches of course but it will eat up some of the fuel for sure.

“By the time they get to their next game the goal is to have that glass of water full again.

“When you throw the curveball of having to play two games in three days, the challenge of filling that glass of water becomes a lot harder.”

Pauric then goes on to highlight a few ways for players to prepare them for quick turnaround of matches.
