Haddock embracing St Ronan’s Hogan Cup opportunity

Jack Haddock sees great things ahead for St Ronan’s and Lurgan

TEAM of the week is always popular among the younger readers of Gaelic Life, which proved to be so yet again after the MacRory Cup final when the two main contenders for player of the week were both from the St Ronan’s Lurgan team which won the title.

Rioghan Meehan garnered 46 per cent of the vote, but he was edged out by his team mate Jack Haddock.

The Clann Eireann player had a fantastic game against St Mary’s Magherafelt and went on to help his school beat the Kerry Champions in the Hogan Cup semi-final.

Haddock has the same amount of confidence about this Saturday’s Hogan Cup final against Rice College, Westport as they had for those previous matches and he said that the mood on the panel and in the school has been very good.

“Anywhere you go there is people wishing you good luck.

“What the coaches are trying to do at the moment are keep our heads down and to keep us grounded really. There is a game to look forward to and it is a great opportunity to play at Croke Park but it is still a game at the end of the day.”

“Leading up to the MacRory final there was a lot of attention going round the town. There were people you were speaking to that you had never spoke to before.

“You were going to get your hair cut and people were asking you questions and wishing you good luck. I suppose that has actually helped us going into the Hogan Cup final because we have been able to deal with the pressure a wee bit more.”

The full interview with Jack Haddock is available in store today or online here. We’ve also touched base with St Ronan’s coach David Wilson and midfielder Jack Lenehan.
