Steven Poacher: The diary of a club manager

There are so many avenues to cover when going into management

IN his weekly column, Ballyholland boss Steven Poacher gives an insight into his average week with the club this season.

Last week, they bowed out of the Down Senior Championship at the quarter-final stage to Downpatrick by a single point in a quarter-final replay, after extra time.

Poacher says that people don’t understand the effort, commitment and sacrifice from players, but he’s had a hectic schedule himself.

For example, “This Summer, my Sunday was normally spent at Croke Park hoping to pick up some ideas maybe from a warm-up, the way a team sets up structurally or even from a restart strategy.

“The evening will almost surely consist of studying the video of the previous Friday evening’s league game and performing detailed analysis to carry to training the following evening.”
