Fitzpatrick says St John’s must prove potential

St John’s player Matthew Fitzpatrick understands that there is an expectation on the club to start delivering senior championship titles.

The club have won a litany of minor and u-21 titles in recent years, but have yet to capture the senior title.

Ahead of this weekend’s Antrim SFC semi-final against the champions Cargin (Sunday, Lamh Dhearg, 3.30pm) Fitzpatrick said that he doesn’t feel pressure, but knows that they must deliver.

“I know most of the boys won a lot at underage level.

“I know people would say that it needs to bear fruit.

“We have got a lot of young players who were successful at u-21 level and those players are coming through.”

He also goes on to talk about the ‘disaster’ that was last year’s defeat to Cargin in the semi-final.
