McGleenan not feeling the pressure

Mattie McGleenan has described Cavan’s clash with Monaghan as their ‘Ulster final’ in his interview with Gaelic Life this week

CAVAN senior boss Mattie McGleenan isn’t feeling the heat ahead Sunday’s Ulster Championship quarter-final clash against their great rivals Monaghan.

McGleenan has been steeled for intercounty management by his stint at Monaghan club Scotstown, whom he guided to senior championship success in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

Perhaps he’ll have time to exchange a few pleasantries with some of his former footsoldiers on Sunday? The Eglish man insists he remains grounded despite his high-profile appointment to Cavan back in October.

“If you feel pressure you can forget about it. This is an absolutely fabulous environment to be in. I worked with Darren Hughes, Kieran Hughes, Rory Beggan, Shane Carey and Conor McCarthy at Scotstown. They all have the same county mentality and experience.

“I haven’t changed anything, I’m still the same person I was with Scotstown and I meet similar type of players with similar attributes and they all want to play the best they can and it’s the only place to be.”
