In his column in this weekend’s Gaelic Life, Pauric Grimes suggests that a lot of athletes are wasting their time in the gym.
He says they know the skills and the moves, but they don’t understand that they are doing the wrong ones.
He says: “I see so many GAA players in the gym using their time wrong.
“They want to become more powerful athletes, to be strong, and fast, and agile when they are on the field. But then they turn around and spend their time doing bench presses, and arm curls.”
PG goes on to highlight three points for all athletes to remember when they go to the gym.
The first is:
“Your session goal dictates your session content.
“If your aim is lower-limb strength development then load up the bar and squat, deadlift and hip thrust. Don’t waste your time and energy on exercises that aren’t going to bring you closer to your goals.”
