Jamie Clarke – to play or not to play?

Jamie Clarke is expected to play some part in the National League

When Jamie Clarke posted an image of himself with Kieran McGeeney in America towards the end of last year, the hearts of Armagh fans were lifted.

The star forward looked like he was set to commit to the county for National League, and that meant that their chances of promotion would get even better.

The question now is, how heavily will Clarke feature? He is definitely on the Armagh panel for the National League, but he is was not named on the 26 man McKenna Cup squad for their opening round game against Derry this weekend.

He should get some game time, but how much? And how sharp will he be, after spending time in America?

Undoubtedly he is a sharp footballer, and could do plenty of damage in diviion three, but it’s more likely that he will be eased into playing duties during the league.

Only the overly hopeful would risk selecting Clarke this year.
