COACHING columist Steven Poacher believes it’s only a matter of time before Carlow make the breakthrough at senior intercounty level.
As well as his multitude of other commitments, Poacher has been involved on a part-time basis with Carlow this season and has been handed yet more responsibility as team trainer in 2017.
Impressed with what he’s seen, he believes the Leinster minnows have what it takes to surprise a few people in the coming years.
“I travelled down for the first time one weekend in May and was welcomed with open arms and have never looked back.
“They have a fabulous training complex in Fenagh with five beautiful floodlit pitches that you could bowl a bowling ball on, coupled with access to Carlow IT university with a state of the art gymnasium and running track, aided by a progressive forward-thinking county board.”
“Considering the structures are in place, it’s just a matter of manager Turlough O’Brien, his management team and the players getting the breakthrough they thoroughly deserve.”
