All players, even wild characters like Roscommon legend Shane Curran, use sports pschology

Pauric Grimes understands why Joe Brolly is critical of Sports Psychology, but points out that it is actually false gurus which give the profession a bad name.

Grimes, in his column this week, points out that we have all used sports psychology at some point, though we may not have know that we wer doing so.

“Even though we may not be aware of it, we’re always trying to tap into psychological tools to get the most out of our performance, and that of those around us.

“Some players flourish when they have played the game over in their heads 20 times before they take to the field. Others will distance themselves from the expectations of the game itself until the ball is thrown in and the first whistle is blown.”
