GAELIC Life hurling columnist John Martin believes that Central Council’s introduction of a free-taking contest to settle League fixtures has missed a trick.

Martin believes that the one-on-one penalty would be perfect for games that finish level after extra time, and an additional 10 minutes of extra time.

“The one-on-one penalty that was introduced in 2015 is tailor-made for this type of shoot-out, and could be run along the same lines as those currently used in soccer.”
