KEVIN Cassidy has backed Rory Gallagher to lead Donegal into their new era.

With Colm McFadden and Eamon McGee now retired, while others are believed to be considering their inter-county futures, the Tir Chonaill squad will be missing some notable figures in 2017.

The Gaelic Life columnist believes that Gallagher is the man for that job despite the county’s All-Ireland quarter-final loss to Dublin on Saturday.

“I hope Rory stays in place as I feel he is the right man for the job,” he said.

“Rory took a job that no one else would touch after the departure of Jim McGuinness, so for that reason alone he deserves to be shown some respect and time.”
