Tough opener for All-Ireland champions
Donegal will face Tyrone blocking their progress in the first round of Ulster next year.
Only a wonder save from Paul Durcan got Donegal past Tyrone when the sides met in the semi-final of Championship 2012. Now Mickey Harte has seven months to plot his revenge as the Donegal and their Red Hand rivals are slated to meet in the first round of the 2013 Ulster Championship. With Sean Cavanagh, Kyle Coney and Ronan O’Neill likely to be back on board it already looks set to be the pick of the early matches in the 2013 championship series.
The winner won’t get an easy path to the decider either with 2010 All-Ireland finalists Down or a rejuvenated Derry under Brian McIver sure to provide stiff oppositition.
On the other side of the draw Cavan once again feature on the Ulster championship’s opening day, providing Paul Grimley with his first championship test as boss of Armagh. The winners of that take on Fermanagh in the first round proper. The other game on that side of the draw sees Monaghan under Malachy O’Rourke take on Antrim, who have yet to decide who will be steering their managerial fortunes in 2013.
