O'Rourke warned of tough task

New Monaghan manager Malachy O’Rourke

Farney legend Gerry McCarville told Gaelic Life this week that the new Monaghan boss Malachy O’Rourke should be under no illusion about the scale of the task ahead.

The Scotstown man who won three Ulster Championships with Monaghan as a fearsome full back said that the current team are over-reliant on older players who will soon retire, and the challenge of getting out of division three will be more difficult than anyone expects.

“Malachy O’Rourke has a lot of work ahead of him,” McCarville said.

“Division three is a difficult one to get out of. You are not going to run away with it. It is not a case of automatically going back up into division two.

“It is going to be a tough year and he is going to have to work very hard.”
