Hughes ruled out for Saval

Saval’s Danny Hughes

SAVAL boss PJ Magee has called on his players to stand up and be counted after Danny Hughes was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

The county star was unable to participate in last weekend’s championship defeat to Mayobridge due to a hamstring problem picked up while on duty with Down, and he will also be on the treatment table for their back door match with Ballyholland which is due to be played on the weekend of September 7th-9th.

“It looks like Danny will be out for the rest of the season,” confirmed Magee. “Danny has been in and out for the last two years with injuries and we have to now stand up and perform without him.

“Maybe in the past boys would have said, ‘It’s OK, Danny can win us the game’, but we can’t do that now.

“We have a very good minor team there and we’re taking some of them through, and you’d be hoping some of those players become leaders on the pitch.”
