Armagh destroy Deise

Armagh half forward Marian McGuinness

Armagh ladies reached the semi-finals of the Intermediate Championship this week when they destroyed Wateford by 4-14 to 2-12.

It was a game that was never in doubt, though the Orchard girls were guilty of taking the foot off the pedal in the second half.

Waterford got the first point of the game, but that spurred Armagh into life, and they had outscored their opponents by 2-10 to 1-1 by the end of the first half. Yet it wasn’t until the 49th minute that Armagh scored again.

Wateford’s MIchelle Ryan rallied her troops in the period after the interval, as she scored 1-9 though 0-7 of that came from frees. But really there was only going to one winner, as Armagh’s Mairead Tennyson was sprung from the bench and scored a point.

Indeed, Orchard county boss James Daly should be pleased with his spread of scrorers. Ciara Lennon and Mags McAlinden grabbed 1-2 each, while Shauna O’Hagan scored 0-5. Caroline O’Hanlon hit 0-3, Fionnuala McKenna got 0-2 and Kelly Mallon scored a major.
